Valorant boosting is a $40M USD/year market with ~70% of services being either scams or single-person operators with zero accountability. This guide is what we wish every customer asked us before paying.
The two types of "boost scam"
Most articles lump them together. They're different problems:
Type 1 — Account theft
Booster takes your login, plays one game, then changes the email/phone/2FA and locks you out. By the time Riot recovers it (2-6 weeks), 6 months of skins are sold for crypto.
How common: ~12% of Discord-listed boosting services per a 2025 Twitch survey of 1,200 buyers.
Type 2 — Take-the-money-and-ghost
Booster takes payment via PayPal F&F or crypto, plays 1-2 games, then stops responding. No refund mechanism. Discord server goes dark.
How common: ~38% of "I'll do it cheap" DM offers on Reddit / r/ValorantBoosting.
If you avoid the 8 red flags below, you reduce both to near-zero.
Red flag 1 — They ask for PayPal F&F (Friends & Family)
Friends & Family disables buyer protection. Legit services use invoiced payment (Stripe, Wise, PayID, AfterPay) where you have 180 days of chargeback protection.
Test: Ask for an itemized AUD invoice with GST. If they refuse, walk.
Red flag 2 — No company name, no ABN, no terms of service
A legit AU service has:
- A registered ABN (search free at abr.business.gov.au)
- Public Terms of Service that include refund matrix
- A business email (not gmail/qq personal)
- A business address (city + state minimum)
Test: Look for the ABN footer. No ABN = high-risk. (TetraGG's ABN: 70 767 210 027)
Red flag 3 — They refuse duo / "play-with-you" mode
Account-sharing is the highest-risk delivery method. Duo / play-with-you mode means:
- You stay logged in
- Booster joins your party as themselves
- They carry from their own account
Any service that only offers account-share boost is signaling: "We can't actually carry games — we just need account access to log smurfs in."
Test: Ask "can I duo instead of account-share?" If they say no without explanation, walk.
Red flag 4 — Payment first, work later, no guarantee
The legit model is:
- You pay invoice
- Booster claims order, ETA committed
- If booster doesn't start within 24h, full refund auto-triggered
- Booster delivers, you confirm, payment releases
If they want full payment upfront with no dispute mechanism, walk.
Red flag 5 — They can't show recent rank screenshots / Tracker.gg profiles
A booster claiming "Immortal" should have:
- Public Tracker.gg link (
tracker.gg/valorant/profile/riot/<name>%23<tag>) - Recent rank screenshot (last 7 days)
- Match history visible
Anyone refusing to share = either smurfing on your account or doesn't actually have the rank.
Test: Ask for their Tracker.gg URL. Verify their last 5 matches show the rank claimed.
Red flag 6 — No VPN region matching
Riot's anti-cheat (Vanguard) flags rapid IP-region switching. If your account is logged in from Australia and the booster logs in from Vietnam without a VPN matching AU, that's a 14-day ban risk.
Test: Ask "what VPN do you use to match my region?" Legit services answer specific brands (Mullvad, ExpressVPN AU node, Surfshark AU).
Red flag 7 — Refund policy is "no refunds"
ACL (Australian Consumer Law) overrides any "no refunds" clause for failed services. Any service that puts "all sales final" in their ToS is either:
- Not based in Australia (so ACL doesn't apply — be cautious)
- Hoping you don't know your rights
A legit AU service has a refund matrix like:
- Booster doesn't start in 24h → 100% refund
- Cancelled mid-order → pro-rata refund
- 14-day ban not customer's fault → 50% refund + replacement
- Already at target rank → no refund (fair)
See TetraGG's refund matrix in /terms — ours is 13 conditions long because real refunds need real conditions.
Red flag 8 — They don't have public reviews from Australia
Trustpilot, Google Reviews, Productreview.com.au — a legit AU service has reviews from AU buyers, not just generic Discord testimonials. Look for:
- Reviews mentioning Australian universities (USYD, UniMelb, etc.)
- Reviews mentioning AUD pricing
- Reviews from accounts older than 30 days
Generic glowing reviews from new accounts = paid review farm.
The 3 questions to ask every booster
If you're DM'ing a booster on Discord/Reddit, ask these three:
1. "Can I see your Tracker.gg profile?" Legit booster sends URL within minutes.
2. "What's your refund policy if you don't start in 24h?" Legit booster gives a specific commitment (e.g., "100% refund auto-issued").
3. "Can we do duo instead of account-share?" Legit booster says yes, possibly with a small price difference.
If they fail any of these three, walk away. The 5 minutes you save by trusting a stranger is not worth a 6-week account recovery.
