About 30% of customers who book TetraGG boosting really wanted coaching, and ~10% who book coaching really wanted boosting. They figured this out 1-3 sessions in, often after spending A$200+ on the wrong service. This article is the decision tree we wish was on our homepage.
The fundamental difference (and why it matters)
Boosting = renting a result. Someone else plays. You get the rank, you don't get better. Cost: per-rank flat fee.
Coaching = renting an analysis. You play. They tell you why you lose. You get better, and rank follows. Cost: per-hour rate.
Most articles stop here. The real decision is which of these your specific situation calls for. The 6 questions below decide.
Question 1 — Do you know why you're losing?
Be honest. "I'm losing because my teammates throw" is not a reason — that's averaged out across enough games.
If you can articulate your weakness clearly:
- "My crosshair placement is too low"
- "I peek with bad timing on retakes"
- "I overstack util and lose econ"
→ You don't need coaching at the diagnostic level. You need a partner to drill the fix. Boost or duo.
If you genuinely don't know why you're plateaued:
- You've watched VODs and they "look fine"
- You've grinded 200+ games at the same rank
- Your stats look better than your rank suggests
→ Coaching. Specifically, 1-2 hours of Master+ coaching to identify the diagnosis, then duo or aim training to drill the fix.
Question 2 — Are you trying to improve, or get to a number?
The number-only player. You need rank for:
- Uni team tryout deadline
- Streaming credibility ("Diamond+" required)
- Battle pass progression
- Settlement bet with friends
→ Boost. Coaching is wasted A$200 of your time.
The improvement-focused player. You want:
- To carry games yourself reliably
- To enjoy the game more
- Long-term progression
→ Coaching first, boost only if rank is also a hard requirement.
Question 3 — How many hours/week can you commit?
< 5 hours/week: Coaching is hard to convert into results. You'll forget lessons between sessions. → Boost if you need rank.
5-15 hours/week: Sweet spot for coaching. → Coaching for plateau-breaks, Boost for rank-only.
15+ hours/week: You can absorb intense coaching. → Often the right answer is Coaching, but skip Verified tier — go Master or Pro to get value from your already-high game volume.
Question 4 — What's your current rank vs target rank?
Iron-Silver → Gold target: Game sense > aim. Coaching with Verified (A$55/h × 3 sessions = A$165) outperforms boosting (A$60-90).
Gold-Plat → Diamond target: 50/50 split. If your aim is solid, boost is faster. If aim is weak, coaching with aim drills.
Diamond → Ascendant: This is the "should I keep playing or just buy rank" zone. Master coaching if you have 4+ months and want to actually be Asc-level. Boost if you have 2 weeks and need the symbol.
Ascendant → Immortal: At this level, only coaching helps you stay there. Boost gets you in, but you'll fall back to Asc 2 in 4-6 weeks if mechanics aren't there. Pair them: boost the rank, then 5 hours of Pro coaching to hold it.
Immortal → Radiant: We don't usually recommend boost here. RR ladder requires sustained presence. Pro coaching only. And this isn't really our market — go to specialized OCE Radiant coaches.
Question 5 — What's your budget?
This decides which tier within your chosen path:
If you picked Boosting
| Budget | Recommendation | Path |
|---|---|---|
| A$30-100 | One-rank boost | Iron→Silver only, do rest yourself |
| A$100-300 | Multi-rank boost | Iron→Plat in one go |
| A$300-500 | Long boost | Iron→Diamond or Plat→Imm |
| A$500+ | Premium boost | Diamond→Imm with priority queue, optional duo |
If you picked Coaching
| Budget | Recommendation | Path |
|---|---|---|
| A$55-110 | 1-2 sessions Verified | Diagnostic + 1 follow-up |
| A$165-275 | 3-5 sessions Verified | Full plateau-break package |
| A$300-500 | Master tier | Iron→Plat full transformation |
| A$500-1000+ | Pro tier | Asc→Imm specialized work |
Question 6 — Are you stuck for emotional or mechanical reasons?
This is the question most articles miss.
Mechanical stuck: Aim plateau, comp meta blind spot, agent learning. → Coaching/aim training solves it.
Emotional stuck: Tilt-queueing, can't stop after 2 losses, ranked anxiety, ego-peeking. → Neither coaching nor boosting solves this. Take a 2-week break, come back fresh. Don't pay anyone.
Burned out (signs: dread before queueing, no enjoyment when winning, only relief): → Don't grind. Boost if you need the rank for a deadline. Otherwise just stop playing for a month.
The decision tree, condensed
Do you know why you're losing?
├── Yes, but my teammates throw → Boost (A$30-420)
├── Yes, specific weakness → Coaching: 1 Verified session (A$55) to confirm + drill
└── No, I just lose → Coaching: Master 1h (A$100) for diagnosis
Then:
What's your goal?
├── Rank symbol only → Boost
├── Long-term improvement → Coaching
└── Both → Coaching first, boost the last 1-2 ranks if needed
A real example walkthrough
A USYD student emailed us 2 weeks ago:
- Current rank: Plat 2 (stuck 4 months)
- Target: Diamond by end of semester (4 weeks)
- Budget: A$300
- Plays 12h/week
- Says "I think my util is bad"
Wrong answer: A$150 P→D boost. Symptom-fix, doesn't address util.
Right answer: A$100 Master 1h coaching (diagnose util) + A$55 Verified follow-up + 3 weeks self-grind + A$60 Plat 3→Diamond 1 boost final stretch = A$215 total, hits Diamond, learns the util fix, doesn't fall back.
Outcome: Diamond 2 in 5 weeks, says he can hold it now. We saved him A$85 and a 6-week relapse.
